Administrative arrangements for the costs of Porterage.

1. Regulations.

The 1922 Post and Telegraph Guide outlined the Porterage charges on pages 195-6 starting with Para 350. The relevant paragraphs are included below.

Essentially the cost was 3d for deliveries beyond 3½ miles from a General Post Office and 1½ miles from a local Post Office - with several caveats.

The 1952 Regulations were very similar except that:

3. Forms

Only one form explicitly addressing porterage costs is now known.

Form T.G. 40 used to notify the sender of a telegram that porterage fees were declined by a recipient. 1929 form
